Ruby the Jack Russell
Isn’t it funny how people get a dog once the ‘having kids’ thing is all done?
That’s what happened to us. And every morning I see lots of the mums and dads walking their little kiddies up to school, past our house and loads of them now have a dog in tow. It would seem to be the thing to do.
So these photo session pics are of a newly-acquired pup called Ruby (a Jack Russell) who belongs to our friends who live around the corner. She was only about 12 weeks when these were taken. Ahhh.
Dog Photo Session in the Bluebells
I’m back. Apologises for my absense in the past six weeks, but I’m blaming it on dog-overkill from Crufts.
Anyway, this post is from a dog photo session I did earlier in the week out in Chiddingstone. It was a fantastic job to do for a few reasons. Firstly, I got to meet one of the brides I photographed (yes, I photograph weddings also, check out the link to my main photo website) about three years ago again, as it was Sophie who had got in touch, asking about dog photography for her mum’s Springer Spaniel, Megan.
After a little back and forth on the phone, trying to avoid the rain, rain, rain that we’ve had, we finally managed to get it on. Which meant a trip back to Jane’s (Sophie’s mum) absolutely beautiful cottage in Chiddingstone, with a garden to die for. Yes, these pictures were taken in amongst the bluebells that are in the wooded part of the garden. How fantastic is that!
So it was great to see Jane and Sophie again and also the new addition to the family, as Sophie had new five month old baby George in tow.
So back to Megan, a 6 year old Springer Spaniel X who was fantastically well-behaved having been very well trained by Jane. As you know, I’m very partial to a Spaniel and she was just like my Barney – full of beans and happy to chase a ball around. Simple pleasures.
After photographing in the garden, we finished off in Puckden Woods which also has masses of bluebells.
I promise to get going again with my regular posts of the dogs around the area. I still have a few in the bag that I need to blog about so keep coming back.
Online Ordering of Crufts Pics
I’ve now uploaded all the pics I kept from the four days photographing at Crufts.
You can get to the Shop part of the site by clicking here or the link in the right-hand column.
You’ll have noticed that lots of the pictures on this blog are in black and white. These are b&w conversions from the original colour image. I’ve only uploaded the colour images to the shop site but if anyone would like a b&w print done, please send me a message stating which images you’d like and I can always upload a b&w version to the shop.
Here’s a string (made up, but sounds like an appropriate collective noun) of Miniature Smooth Haired Daschunds. They are, in no particular order, Syrup, Trouble, Ripple, Brin and Woody.

Online Ordering of Crufts Pics
Lots of people have been getting back to me about getting copies of the pictures that have featured on this blog from the past four days at Crufts.
I’m in the process of sorting and editing and will be uploading the pictures to the shop part of the site (look to the right where it has a big ‘SHOP ONLINE’ in red letters). Once I uploaded everything, just click there and you’ll find the images grouped by the day (Thurs-Sun). They aren’t ready yet but should be there in a couple of days so please pop back and have a look to see if your dog is there.
You can click on the link now to see what’s available to buy and how much things cost.
I’ll be uploading all the pics that made it on to the blog posts plus a few more and the final day Best In Show pics and presentation.
Please can you share this link around if you recognised any of the dogs in the previous posts.
Here’s one of Best In Show judge Frank Kane taking a look at the overall winner Elizabeth, a Lhasa Apso.

Sunday at Crufts #1
Well it’s the final day and I must admit I’m getting a feeling of dog photography fatigue.
It’s Hounds and Terriers today and I’ve been doing the usual thing of arriving in the morning, entering one of the halls and working my way around, especially the showing areas.
Although I’ve got no brief or deadlines with this project, I’m trying to keep the coverage up to date with a blog post/pictures at roughly the same time each day so that all the people I’ve spoken to, photographed their dogs and given my card to, have something to look out for when they get back each evening.
The hits on the site have gone up and up this week and this is all good. If you are reading this, please can you pass this blogsite on to any of your friends, Facebook groups, dog-owners groups, dog businesses or anybody else who may be interested.
I’m writing this in the press room and there’s a few more people here today, I expect in anticipation of the Best In Show to come later. I’m going to shoot it from one of the press seats. Personally, I don’t find photographing in the arena particularly rewarding. Getting a little elevated can help (photographically) with a clean background, but you can be a bit far off at times so we’ll see. At ringside you can get a bit closer, but then you have all the advertising in the background and as I’m not shooting for a sponsor, this is pretty unappealing anyway.
The presentation shot of the winner will be handy to have but I expect like most of these things, it will become a bit of a bun fight. Yesterday I photographed all the people with cameras photographing one of the Best in Breed presentations and a guy said to me, “there’s the picture mate” pointing at the winners. I told him I thought the picture had been covered well enough by everybody else, but he probably did know best.
Time for a cup of coffee before venturing into the main arena, to sit with the other snappers, who no doubt will blast the hell out the proceedings from 50 yards away. I’ll try to pick my moments.
